My favourite place of worship

Today we had a service at my favourite place of worship here in the UK. It is the little Anglican church where the Methodists have their services on alternate Sundays every month.

The atmosphere is peaceful and I love the stained glass windows and candles on the alter so always look forward to services there.

There is a lovely well kept cemetery at the back of the property and this reminds me of our very first appointment at Hilton near Queenstown in South Africa.
Strange to think that our first appointment and last appointment should have such similar environments. The only difference being that there we only had 4 preaching places whereas here we have 9.

Well today we had a surprise. The aconites (Monkshood) and snow drops were in bloom. What a lovely sight to see.

Now my thoughts turn to Spring. Is this the beginning????

Shrove Tuesday

We have always enjoyed pancakes. I remember that as a child whenever it rained my Dad said: "Pannekoek vandag".

We have eaten pancakes for lunch and for supper and of course at any church bazaar in South Africa there was always a pancake stall and often we were in control there. Cadac cylinders and fry-pans ready.

In Holland we were introduced to pancakes for breakfast as the family there always had them at least once a week. Now that the Cherubs are older they manage to twist the Granny's arm and have pancakes for breakfast more frequently when they visit us or when we visit them.

Well today is Shrove Tuesday so this morning I prepared the batter and got ready for a feast for our lunch.

In no time at all the pancakes were made and ready for eating. You won't see a picture of our plates as that would be letting the cat out of the bag and you would know how many we had. I will give you a clue though.

As a lent fundraiser the Charity "Action for Children" will collect money every day in Lent from those of us who participate. The first day will be 10p for every pancake you had on Tuesday.

Douglas must pay 50p and I have to pay 60p.

Another memory

This afternoon we went to the Pantomime in the Town Hall.  This brought back memories of my childhood when we lived in Swakopmund and enjoyed all our entertainment in the Town Hall because there was no cinema or theater in the town. It is the same here.
We have attended plays and movies and of course other social events in the local Town Hall. The Pantomime production every year is the highlight. A time of fun and laughter as we watch the antics on the stage and of course enjoy the audiance participation that all adds to making a Pantomime so very special.

We have usually attended an evening performance but this time decided the matinee would suit us better and it was a good decision. The Brownies were there as a group and of course all the families had children attending and as a child has no inhebitions the responses were enthusiastic and loud.

A fun time. (I forgot to take my camera so had to rely on my trusty iPhone for the pictures.)
