Happy 100th Birthday Olive

This afternoon we shared a very special Birthday tea with a very special person.
This is the second 100th Birthday party we have attended and the third person that we know who has celebrated a 100th Birthday here in Downham Market. We will always remember Sharmie's party in the town hall. She will be 103 this year.

Today's party for Olive was very different but just as special. It was held in several lounges at one of the Care Homes and we had the pleasure of Elvis' company too.

The food was delicious and the singing fantastic and the bonus was that I got to dance with Elvis.
I discovered that I would never be able to be with another man because Douglas, who was in another lounge when I was dancing, was told by more than one person to come and see his wife was dancing with Elvis. (No picture as by the time he arrived the dancing had come to an end.)
Elvis was wonderful with all the elderly folk in the home and spent time with individuals during each of his songs. I could not believe that he had so much energy as he sang non stop for just under two hours only having one break of 10 minutes to change his outfit.
We all had a lovely time listening to the songs from years gone by and also got the chance to chat with folk from different parts of the area who all come to wish this special lady a very happy Birthday. Hope you can have a taste of the music if you watch the video clips on the website.

Women's World Day of Prayer

Another "last time in the UK" event. The Women's World Day of Prayer service was held at the Anglican Church in Denver this year.

Like in SA these annual services move around and are held in the different churches in the area. Since we have been here I have attended them at the Downham Methodist Church, the Anglican Church in Downham and also the Salvation Army only missing one because I was in USA visiting my sister that year.

Every year these services are planned by different countries and this year it was France's turn. The church was decorated with French flags and pictures and so we had a definite French feel as we attended the service. The young lady who gave the message was French and she has now settled in the UK as she has married and Englishman. She used the story of Ruth and Naomi to illustrate the message so sticking to the theme of the service.
During the last Hymn we all tied the ribbons we had been given at the start of the service so we could all be joined together by these ribbon links.

After the service, that was well attended, we enjoyed refreshments and once again the French theme filtered through as we enjoyed the delicious French eats while having our tea and coffee. There was even some French wine which could be served in the church because it was not a Methodist church.
